Well, Jets fans you wanted it, now you have it… a true rebuild that is. The New York Jets rebuilding season has brought out a litany of emotions from the fan base, with the recent loss to the Miami Dolphins bringing out the ugly side. At 3-3 many fans were optimistic, but a 14 point blown lead to the Miami Dolphins and their backup quarterback has some calling for firings and roster cuts. Slow your roll people, this is all part of the process, the one that you demanded.
When you completely overhaul your roster and infuse a tremendous amount of young talent/inexperienced players growing pains are going to happen. It’s inevitable whether you yell on social media all day long or not. There are new leaders on offense and defense, not to mention players being asked to do things for the first time in their career. There are so many moving parts as Todd Bowles and his staff try to install a new offense, with a new quarterback, as the defense has at least 5 new starters on the field.
At 3-4 there are several positives to look at with the Jets, including the fact that the team is playing very hard and appears united on both sides of the football, something that has not been the case in recent years. Young playmakers are emerging and are gaining very valuable game experience. The team is going toe to toe with their opponents, when in most cases they are considered the underdog. What else were you expecting out of this season? If you are being honest, many people expected a lot less, no?
It’s remarkable how Todd Bowles gets credit for a 3-3 record and a solid effort against the Patriots, to people calling for him to be fired following the Miami loss. Further proof that the Jets fan base is bi-polar.
It’s comical to read fans praise Josh McCown for 3 quarters then want him benched for one throw. Can’t wait to see a highly touted young quarterback thrown into this putrid environment.
It’s quite convenient to say “I told you so” after the fact. I tend to be more impressed when your “hot take” occurs before a play/game actually happens. At 28-14 many of the self proclaimed experts were on to Atlanta.
A part of me would like to see the Jets win the next two games just for the reactions of the fan base. I am sure there will be many saying 5-4 is not a good thing and meaningless.
